About Stanwell
Stanwell is an energy business with a portfolio of electricity generation assets throughout Queensland. We are a major provider of electricity to Queensland, the National Electricity Market and large energy users throughout Australia.
As a company that operates gas and coal-fired power stations, it is Stanwell’s job to keep providing reliable electricity at prices that are affordable as the industry transitions to a lower carbon future. We can ramp generation from our coal-fired power stations up and down as needed, to let solar generation shine in the middle of the day, and still provide the electricity people need in the mornings and evenings. We keep the lights on for our customers.
While providing reliable and affordable energy for today, we are also exploring new generation and storage technologies that will help reduce emissions for tomorrow.
We have a variety of income sources which allow us to achieve the best possible returns for our owners, the people of Queensland. We sell wholesale electricity and we have an electricity retail business Stanwell Energy, whose customers are large commercial and industrial energy users. We also have an income stream from the sale of coal offshore.
At Stanwell, we value a diverse and inclusive culture, where we attract, employ and develop people who share our values and want to make a difference. We employ close to 700 employees and aim to create a workplace where everyone is included, treated fairly, respected and given the opportunity to be the best they can be.
