Unfortunately and despite weather your environmentally minded and most likely agree with penalties for energy production with high carbon emissions, higher power prices are here to stay.

One of my biggest observations during my time as a sparky is many peoples general confusion with energy and indeed the waste of it, which has been created by the use of many of the products available that have been installed in our businesses and homes. Energy was considered inexpensive it seems with much of the product design and building specification dating back to the 1960's being very inefficient. The trend of poor product design driven by price and the overuse of light fittings was a classic example of energy wastage which exploded during the 1990's and continues in many cases to this day.

"Look up - it's the lights!.."

I have recently, through request of many of my clients looked closer into the ability to lower their power consumption; this has surprised even myself in some cases just how much energy is waste, especially by the things you would least expect - that's right, look up, it's the lights!

Low voltage halogen down lights and gas filled high output lighting (eg high bays, shop front displays and floodlights) are now costing you a small fortune to run in energy and maintenance! In some cases the payback time for a replacement LED equivalent fitting installed is as quick as 9 months (dependant on usage). This message has been selling itself to many business and home owners I have spoken to and I am very busy these days upgrading light fittings for my regular customers.
